Este, Italy | June 23, 2026 – Biocompatibility Innovation (BCI), a pioneer in biostealth technology for medical devices and life support equipment, today announced the launch of B-Kool®, a plant-based technology that prevents bacterial contamination through a mechanical, non-biocidal mechanism.
B-Kool is derived from BCI’s patented biostealth platform, originally developed to protect medical devices from adverse biological reactions and support long-term device performance. Following more than a decade of research and development in biomedical applications, BCI is now expanding that expertise into textiles, consumer products, industrial materials, and advanced manufacturing applications.
Unlike conventional antibacterial treatments that rely on metallic biocides or other toxic chemicals aimed at killing microorganisms after they adhere to a surface, B-Kool works by preventing adhesion from occurring in the first place.
Bacteria and other microorganisms must attach to a surface in order to colonize, proliferate, and generate contamination. By preventing adhesion, B-Kool helps maintain hygienic surfaces and controls bacteria-derived odor without releasing active substances into the environment.
As manufacturers increasingly seek alternatives to conventional antimicrobial chemistries, B-Kool offers a mechanical, non-biocidal approach that prevents contamination before it occurs.
“B-Kool represents the translation of more than a decade of biomedical innovation into everyday materials and products,” said Alessandro Gandaglia, CEO of Biocompatibility Innovation.
“Our patented technology platform was designed to limit the post-implant biological processes that contribute to device degeneration, supporting durable device function over time. B-Kool applies the same scientific principles to help manufacturers create cleaner, fresher, more durable products without relying on conventional antimicrobial approaches.”
The technology is 100% plant-based, non-toxic, and dermatologically safe. It contains no silver, metals, quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), isothiazolinones, or other harsh chemicals. B-Kool has received OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT certification. In addition, B-Kool is tested to ISO 22196, ISO 20743, ISO 846, ISO 6330, and ISO 20645 standards.
B-Kool can be applied as a surface treatment or integrated directly into materials during manufacturing and is compatible with both natural and synthetic materials. Potential applications range from high-performance textiles and consumer products to industrial composites, polymers, coatings, and other advanced materials
