Este and Fasano, Italy | October 7, 2025 – Biocompatibility Innovation (BCI), a pioneer in advanced biostealth technology for medical devices, and REA Space, an innovator in advanced wearable technologies for human space exploration, today jointly announced a partnership to explore new advances in astronaut space suits by combining REA’s expertise in space suit design, human-centered engineering, and wearable biosensing systems with BCI’s antibacterial surface treatments. This collaboration represents one of the first consumer-facing applications of BCI’s technology outside the biomedical industry, showcasing its versatility and potential in extreme environments.
Originally developed to enhance the biocompatibility and durability of medical devices, BCI’s technology offers mechanical antibacterial properties that prevent bacteria from adhering to surfaces. With targeted adaptations, the technology is now being tested on space suit materials to optimize the performance of materials used in astronaut gear.
